Sandeep Kalathimekkad was born in Kerala (India) on January 28, 1984. He obtained his MSc in Physics from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2007 and then MSc in Optics from Friendrich-Schiller University, Jena and MSc in Applied Photonics from Imperial College, London in 2009 (both as part of Erasmus Mundus OpSciTech programme). He is currently working on his PhD in the topic of 'Optics in Foils'.
In his spare time he sings, having got training in Indian Classical music of Carnatic style, writes poems and is author of a collection of poems titled 'Sheer Echoes of Time' published by Pranatha books in 2005. Some of his poems can be found at http://members.cox.net/joneve/35sub.html.
