I was born in EEKLO, in 1941. In 1963, I graduated in chemistry at the University of Gent. In 1966, I obtained my doctoral degree at the same university.

In 1963, I started working at UGENT as an assistant in the laboratory of Physical Chemistry and was engaged till 1984. From that year until now I am involved in ELIS.

In the period 1972 -1995 I was professor in Belgian University Development projects at different African universities: UNAZA- Zaire, USHTB-Algeria and University of Burundi during different periods (total 15 years). During that time I was responsible for projects, chemistry courses, creation of laboratories for practical work and research. The research concerned solar energy applications. I was member of different Local and International Scientific organisations.

In 1991 I became full time professor at UGENT, Department ELIS where I am teaching energy resources and biosensors.

My research topics concern electrochemistry, surface chemistry, interconnection technology, batteries, solar cells.
I obtained different scientific distinctions and am member of the Electrochemical Society.

I retired in October 2007.
